Motoki: A new healing adventure

Last weekend, I attended an intro class on the topic of Motoki.  Motoki is an energy healing modality that shares some similarities to Reiki, but arises from a different source and is best applied to certain situations.  I found the training incredibly helpful and interesting, and I plan to continue my exploration of Motoki as it is a very useful, complimentary healing modality.  It plays very nicely with Reiki!

Like Tai Chi or Qigong, Motoki has its roots in martial arts practices.  The ability to harness energy and apply it as force against an opponent is technically practicing Motoki.  Have you ever seen a martial arts practitioner break a series of boards?  It may seem like an impossible feat, but is absolutely possible when accessing Motoki.

Moto literally means base or foundation, and in this application, means EarthKi is the same as Qi or energy, and shows up at the end of Rei-ki.  Motoki therefore means “Earth energy”.  A person accessing Motoki is drawing Earth energy up from the soles of their feet into their body.  And then, traditionally, using that energy to deliver a punch or kick that sends their opponent flying across the room in an astonishingly powerful manner.  Or, as mentioned, chop through stacked boards with ease.

In the past several decades, Motoki has risen in popularity in a different fashion, as healing-minded people began to see how this energy could be harnessed, not to vanquish an enemy, but to heal and support the physical body.  It shares some similarities with Reiki, but is unique in a few aspects as well.

The Reiki practitioner draws upon Cosmic or Universal energy, which enters the body through the crown of the head, base of the neck, or even directly through the hands, to deliver gentle physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing to the recipient.

Motoki practitioners draw upon Earth energy, which enters through the foot chakras, to deliver mostly physical healing energy.  Our instructor taught us that Motoki is really best for physical trauma, injury, and pain.  It can be used in conjunction with Reiki, in the same session, and even in the same moment, to deliver powerful healing derived from both the Earth and the Cosmos.

It is possible to become certified in Motoki, but techniques can be utilized and practiced with great effectiveness as soon as one is familiar with the method, which is encouraging.  My intention is to begin experimenting with Motoki in sessions with friends and family, before undergoing further training and introducing it to my clients.  I plan to dig deeper by attending a Motoki Level I training in the fall.  If you are interested in joining me, or learning more about this powerful healing technique, feel free to contact me so we can chat more!

Love,

Michelle
