Self Healing 101: A Reading List

Curious about Reiki, mindfulness, and all things esoteric? Ready to take the next step on your healing journey? Check out my reading list for inspiration! There’s always more to learn.

Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose.

An excellent introduction to the power of thought, mindfulness, and letting go. Most people tend to go straight to Tolle’s The Power of Now, but I think this second book is more helpful, and you don’t need to read Power of Now to read this one.

Gerald Epstein, Healing Visualizations: Creating Health Through Imagery.

I use the meditations and exercises in this book to help my clients heal faster during our Reiki sessions. It’s considered by many practitioners to be an essential reference, and continues to be the best available despite being over 30 years old.

Bradley Nelson, The Emotion Code: How to Release Your Trapped Emotions for Abundant Health, Love, and Happiness.

This is a fascinating and easy to learn healing method that I’ve had some real success with. It feels like a miracle when it works, and is an incredibly accessible way to make changes to your life.

Louise Hay, You Can Heal Your Life.

This book is an absolute classic. Learn about the many ways your emotional and mental status impact your physical body. Many who work in energy know/believe that all physical symptoms have emotional roots. Louise Hay is one of the OGs that brought this idea into the larger public consciousness.

Karol Truman, Feelings Buried Inside Never Die (Reference Guide).

I have two of these little ring-bound guides- one at home, and one at the office. Inside, a list of negative emotions and several opposite feelings, great for shifting perspectives and creating mantras. Also, a list of physical symptoms and their potential emotional/spiritual roots. I use this list often with clients to help identify blind spots- areas of our lives we maybe don’t realize are affecting our physical health.

Foundation for Inner Peace, A Course in Miracles.

From Amazon: “A Course in Miracles is a unique spiritual self-study program—a course in mind-training—designed to undo the illusion that you are separate in any way from God or your fellow humans. At the level of the mind we are all united as one. When we learn to live this truth consistently, fear, anger and guilt give way to a profound sense of inner peace.” Each day, read a one-page “chapter” and practice the technique described. I found it to be a very useful mindfulness tool. There are associated reading groups and classes, as well.

Barbara Brennan, Hands of Light: A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field.

There are many different “systems” of energy healing. Reiki is one; Barbara Brennan’s Hands of Light is another. It delves more deeply into the concept of the aura (or human energy field) and its many layers. The book guides you in doing healing and energy work in the aura, exclusively.

Rebecca Hemmings, Energy Healing For Children - A Simple Guide: Ease stress, anxiety, manage emotions, feel empowered. 50+ activities breathing, acupressure, meditation and more.

I love this book for kids, and I’d recommend it for ages 5-12. Children have remarkably strong healing and intuitive abilities, particularly before the age of seven. You may be amazed at how easily your child is able to connect with these exercises.

Miriam Bueno, The Loving Energy of Reiki: A Magical Adventure for Kids.

This is a beautifully illustrated paperback picture book for younger children, that introduces the concept of Reiki in a fun and accessible way. At a recent fair that I attended, I had put this book out on the table for people to check out. I had so many people flip through it and then ask me if they could buy it!

There’s a few to get you started! I have many more. Book a session with me in person in San Jose, or remotely, and we’ll have our own little book club! Read any of these books? Let me know what you think in the comments!

Love,

Michelle
